Duke Recruit Quinn Cook Injury Update Part Deux

The Blue Devils 2011 PG Recruit from out of Dematha High School, who will finish his high school career at Oak Hill Academy has received the results from his MRI and has suffered a partial tear of his ACL.

MRI results on Monday showed that Cook suffered a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and will be forced to sit out between 90 to 120 days. He will have surgery on Friday.

According to orthopedic specialist Dr. James E. Gilbert, who also serves as the personal physician of the U.S. national soccer team, Cook’s knee “will be stronger than ever” upon recovery.

He is expected to make a full recovery, but may miss his scheduled official visit to Duke. We will have more on this situation as it develops, but all Cook fans can breath a sigh of relief that he won’t miss his entire senior season.

Duke Recruit Quinn Cook Injury Update

The Blue Devils had two of their most high-profile recruits from the Class of 2011 go down with injuries at the Boost Mobile Elite 24 Event in Venice Beach over the weekend. We learned today that Austin Rivers’ injury is not too serious, but the same may not be said for Quinn Cook.

The Washington Post is reporting that he may be out for his entire senior season, pending the results of his MRI from yesterday.

Cook, who has enrolled at Oak Hill Academy in southwestern Virginia for his senior year of high school, had a magnetic resonance imaging exam on Monday and said he was waiting to learn the results on Tuesday.
If he has torn knee ligaments, Cook would need reconstructive surgery and be sidelined for several months.

Let’s hope he’s okay, as this would have been a very valuable season for his development and growth playing at national powerhouse Oak Hill Academy.

Austin Rivers Injury Update — Just A Sprain

Consensus Top 3 Duke Blue Devils’ and North Carolina Tarheels’ recruit Austin Rivers took a nasty fall on an attempted alley-oop in the Elite 24 event this past weekend. Those on the scene thought he may have done serious damage to the wrist at first, only to watch the tough youngster re-enter the game after a few minutes on the bench.

He went to have x-rays on the wrist Monday and today we get word that all that came of the spill is a sprained wrist and he’ll only be away from basketball for a short time.

Rivers said he was given a brace to wear at night and said he was told to continue to ice the injury and stay away from basketball for at least a week. He said he will probably not participate in the Saturday, Sept. 11, FAAZ Next Level 24 all-star game at Wekiva High. He was scheduled to be a headliner for that event, which spotlights top Florida high school players.

Austin Rivers Visit Updates — Video Evidence

We reported on Saturday night that 2011 shooting guard had declared his intentions to visit the Duke Blue Devils on October 1st, and the North Carolina Tar Heels on October 16th. Well, we weren’t lying as you can clearly see in the video below that the talented rising senior says, “Duke on the 1st, Carolina on the 16th, and Kansas right after that.” While I will stand by the fact that he said this on camera twice from Venice Beach this past weekend, I will tell you that Austin simply had his dates mixed up. Look for him to be in the stands Read moreRead more

Duke Recruit Quincy Miller Will Announce Decision On ESPNU

The Duke Blue Devils are still in contention for a number of highly ranked recruits from the Class of 2011. Austin Rivers, Quinn Cook, and Quincy Miller all have Duke at or near the top of their list. Miller is the most intriguing of the two depending on who you ask, as he and Duke have had a hot and cold relationship for quite some time. The school and recruit have had their ups and downs, as chronicled in an earlier post here.

Quincy always seems to have the spotlight shone on him, and his gregarious personality attracts attention everywhere he goes. Not surprisingly, he tells Bill Rogers of DukeHoopBlog.com in this video below that he will make his announcement on ESPNU, but isn’t sure when just yet. He also notes that Read moreRead more

Duke Blue Devils’ recruit Austin Rivers, who set his visits to Duke and the UNC Tarheels as covered here, fought off a wrist injury from a nasty spill to take home a share of the MVP Award in last night’s All-Star game in Venice Beach. While little defense was played, there were quite a few highlight reel plays on the concrete courts made famous by the movie White Men Can’t Jump.

If you missed the game, you can see it Monday, Aug. 30, 10:00 p.m. EDT and Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1:00 p.m. EDT, both on ESPNU. Not only will you see some of Duke’s future on the court, listen to one of Duke’s most decorated guards from the past behind the mic, Jay Williams.

Duke and UNC Recruit Austin Rivers Visit Updates

There has been some message board speculation by well-connected sources that Blue Devils recruit Austin Rivers would visit Duke for their Midnight Madness event, Countdown to Crazieness. While that may still be the case, a new wrinkle has been thrown in this ever-changing recruitment. In an interview after the Boost Mobile Elite 24 event in Venice Beach, Austin stated that he will officially visit Duke the weekend of October 1st but will also visit the UNC Tarheels on October 16th. He has been known in the past to schedule visits and not make them, and has set benchmarks for visit dates that never came to fruition, so this may all change between now and then. Also, the fact that Austin stated that he will visit UNC on October 16th obviously leaves open the possibility that he will attend Duke’s version of Midnight Madness the night before on the 15th but it doesn’t seem likely. We’ll keep you posted as more updates on this develop.

This news was previously reported by KUTheShiver.com in this video, but we were able to confirm it tonight, so if there was a perception that he misspoke last night, all doubt has been removed tonight.
